History
The history of our company goes back 100 years to the foundation of Clorius and ista, the Danish and German pioneers of consumption-based billing of energy and water. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 ista has expanded not only in Germany but also internationally. Today ista is represented in 25 countries and international market leader in its core business.

Clorius is set up in Denmark by Odin and Aksel Clorius
1924
Clorius receives a first patent for heat allocation meters
1957
ista is set up by Johannes Schultz and Karl Völker in Mannheim (Germany).

Merger of ista and Clorius to form Raab Karcher Energy Services
1997
Raab Karcher Energy Services joins the US-American market and expands its activities to Asia by setting up a representative agent in Beijing, China
1998
Raab Karcher Energy Services is represented with subsidiaries in practically all European countries
1999
Following the merger of Raab Karcher and Veba Immobilien to form Viterra AG, Raab Karcher Energy Services now operates under the name of Viterra Energy Services
2000
Viterra Energy Services takes over the Spanish company Incatema and the 'Envirotech Utility Management Services' in the USA.
2001
Viterra Energy Services opens the door to the Scandinavian energy and utility market. Viterra Energy Services continues to expand in the USA, acquiring 100% of the shares in Utiliread Inc., Atlanta.
2003
The fonds advised by the british financial investor CVC Capital Partners buy Viterra Energy Services from Viterra AG.
2005
Viterra Energy Services changes its name to ista.
The acquisition of USI Energy Inc. makes ista the market leader in the USA. ista also becomes the No. 1 in Belgium following the purchase of the two companies, ista Belgien SA and Energy Control.
2006
Largest acquisition in company history: ista has taken over the French market leader Comptage Immobilier Services (CIS) and becomes the undisputed No. 1 in Europe as well.
2007
The fonds advised by the british financial investor Charterhouse Capital Partners buy ista from CVC.
2008
With the merger of ista and EL-ME in Au in der Hallertau in Germany, ista for the first time has its own production site.
2009
The new branch in Dubai and the engineering office in Thailand strengthen ista's position as a world market leader.
2011
With the foundation of GENEK GmbH &Co KG (Corporation for energy purchase), ista enter the energy market. GENEK combines energy supply with smart metering.
