Backend Developer (PHP)

Here’s what your responsibilities in the role would look like:

  • Design, develop, and manage scalable web applications using the Laravel framework
  • Write robust, effective, and scalable code for both front-end (e.g. Blade components, Livewire, etc.) and back-end components of Laravel-based applications
  • Design and develop server-side applications, RESTful APIs, and background services
  • Develop integrations between systems and third-party APIs
  • Optimise application performance, scalability, and security
  • Work closely with front-end developers to support full-stack development and consistent user experiences
  • Interact with SQL databases
  • Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and Agile planning meetings
  • Collaborate with DevOps engineers to automate deployments and monitor production environments
  • Support the team in transitioning to and optimising cloud-native infrastructure (currently AWS, migrating to Azure)
  • Maintain technical documentation and contribute to best practice sharing across the team
  • Identify and fix bugs that are found within code

What we require of you:

  • 3+ years’ experience in back-end development, preferably in a cloud-native or SaaS environment and web development using Laravel (12 or higher) or similar PHP frameworks (e.g. Symfony)
  • Strong understanding of PHP (PHP 8.3 or higher) programming, Laravel ORM, and RESTful API development
  • Proficiency with front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
  • Working knowledge of cloud servers such as Azure, AWS, Rackspace
  • Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform to manage cloud environments and platform configuration
