How we give buildings a future.
We are implementing a wide range of measures to gradually reduce the impact of our business activities on the environment – from converting our vehicle fleet and recycling our products to switching to green energy.
At the same time, we see great potential for using our services to reduce energy consumption in properties over the long term and make buildings fit for a climate-neutral future, for example with our portfolio in the field of EV charging infrastructure.
We know that sustainability starts with small steps. That is why we believe that every heat cost allocator that brings transparency to a property's energy consumption plays a part in the heat transition.
That's our ambitious goal for our vehicle fleet in Germany. In the 2024 reporting year, we increased the share of electric vehicles to 33.6%, up from around 13% in 2023. If hybrid cars are included, around 72% of ista’s fleet is already (partially) electrified.
Discover all key figuresClimate protection is always an investment in the future: when we take action today, the positive effects often only become visible months or even years later. The same goes for trees — for them to make a real contribution as carbon sinks in the near future, we need to plant them now. That’s why every year, numerous ista employees get involved and plant new trees as part of various local initiatives. In the 2024 reporting year, a total of 19,244 saplings were planted — many of them thanks to the outstanding commitment of our colleagues in Poland.
For example, ista Polska employees planted 600 m2 of new forest area near Katowice in cooperation with the “Forest Forever” foundation. Employees from our Polish companies, ista Technologies and ista Customer Service (see photo), also took part in tree-planting campaigns lasting several days.
In September 2024, ista Denmark donated 1,200 trees to the NGO “Plant et Træ”. But it wasn’t just a financial contribution — employees also planted 200 of those trees themselves.
These efforts are complemented by the ista corporate forest, which now includes around 8,000 trees across Asia, Africa, and South America.
We have the brass contained in old ista metering devices and components, as well as other raw materials, sorted for reuse. In the 2024 reporting year, we recycled a total of 178 tonnes of brass and sent 32 tonnes of circuit boards for recycling.
We have been working with the Haus Hall workshops since 2005. There, people with and without disabilities carefully dismantle our old devices into their component parts. A win-win situation for the environment and society.
Whether in the residential property sector or in industry & commerce, we offer our customers a wide range of opportunities to make a contribution to greater sustainability - and thus drive forward the heating transition in the property sector.
With our smart solutions and innovative technologies, we lay the groundwork for greater energy efficiency in residential properties. By implementing smart metering systems, we help property owners take ecofriendly action that increases the long-term value of their properties.
Through our innovative solutions, businesses and industries can optimise their energy consumption and cut operating costs. ista also helps companies hit their environmental targets, for example with customised EV charging services and ESG management software.
When the staff at the ista France headquarters need a short break, they can take it in their shared vegetable garden. Strawberries, parsley, chives are just a few of the things they have planted together in several raised beds. Through the project, many an employee has discovered they have green fingers. In planting workshops open to everyone, they learn how to bring the raised beds to life again each year. In addition to promoting environmental awareness, this initiative also fosters team spirit in the company, as the staff always do the gardening work together. Incidentally, the garden is watered in a resource-friendly manner using water left over in the carafes, which are always on the lunch tables in our French canteen.

We are progressively switching to electricity from renewable sources in our buildings - a key step towards achieving our net-zero target. In the 2024 reporting year, the share of renewables in our total electricity consumption rose from 70.5% to 80.3%.
