Net-zero roadmap: our way to zero CO2

ista has already been operating climate-neutral since June 2021. We intend to reduce our emissions to net-zero by 2030. To achieve this goal, we have drawn up a detailed roadmap: our net-zero roadmap sets specific milestones and binding policies for all countries and locations.

Our commitment includes the following areas:

Electrification of
the vehicle fleet

Energy supplies from
renewable sources

Climate-friendly
travel policies

An analysis of our carbon footprint has shown that our vehicle fleet and the energy supplies in our properties are crucial to achieving zero CO2. That is why we have made our vehicle fleet, energy supplies and our Travel Policy climate-friendly. We will switch our fleet of vehicles to 100% e-mobility by 2030 and only use energy from renewable sources. A joint database will help us to measure our progress and make adjustments, where necessary.

Quote from ista CEO

"We know what counts when it comes to climate protection in the building sector. With smart solutions, we make it easy for our customers to manage their properties in an energy-efficient manner. Here we lead by example. ista has been operating climate-neutral since June 2021; by 2030 we will be net-zero. We also know: climate protection can only be achieved if we all make a united effort. So let us work together on a sustainable future to leave future generations a planet that is worth living on."

Hagen Lessing, CEO ista SE

Sustainability in various fields of action

Sustainability has top priority at ista. We help people save energy and take wide-ranging action ourselves to conserve resources and protect the climate. Our sustainability strategy defines specific goals in each of the five fields of action: environment, markets, employees, partners and society. In order to achieve these goals, we measure our progress at regular intervals.

Customers & Tenants

With our products and services, we make an effective contribution to greater energy efficiency. We are helping our customers and users reduce their CO2 emissions by 20% by 2030 (base year: 2018). Our ESG Manager already enables property owners to manage their portfolio sustainably. With the EcoTrend and MinuteView services, we make consumption transparent in residential and commercial properties and create incentives for saving energy.

Environment & Employees

ista has already been operating climate-neutral since June 2021, but our goal is to bring emissions down to zero: we will be CO2-free (net zero) by 2030 by acting in a resource-saving manner in all areas of our business. We invest in our employees with apprenticeships, training courses and coaching so they can reach their full potential. We are introducing agile working methods so we can work together more flexibly and efficiently.

Partners & Society

A shared commitment to sustainability is important to us. We are creating opportunities for our employees to invest at least 5,000 hours a year in promoting climate protection, energy awareness and social engagement in society. We will agree sustainability targets with selected strategic suppliers in our supply chain by the end of 2023.

ista in school

is a programme where ista gets active in educational areas. Different projects contribute to make heating in schools more sustainable or getting the young generation engaged and inspired as we do in the Climate Hour (German version only).

ista corporate forest

Together with Social Business Treedom, we promote forestry conservation projects all over the world with our virtual corporate forest. The forest grows through donations by ista and tree sponsorships by our employees; it now comprises some 7,400 trees on three continents.
