ista Progress Report 2024/25

How we give buildings a future.

We give buildings a future. We accomplish this through products and services that help cut the CO2 emissions of buildings. To achieve this, we manage data and processes that make buildings more climate-friendly, safer, and more comfortable.

Our products and services are digital-based. We ensure that the switch to our sustainable technologies is easy for everyone. This enables every member of society to contribute to climate protection.

This is our 15th progress report. Every year, we report transparently on our progress towards net zero by 2030. With a clear strategy, smart ideas, and a wide range of ESG projects, we are moving a step closer to this ambitious goal every single year.

We have an ambitious goal: net zero by 2030. And we are well on track!

Dear readers,

ista is pursuing an ambitious goal: net zero by 2030. To achieve this, we are transforming our vehicle fleet, making it more electrified every year, and progressively switching our electricity supply to renewable sources. We are well on track: in 2024, we reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalents compared with the previous year.

Our employees are also getting actively involved themselves – in keeping with our hands-on mentality. In 2024, they did 4,360 hours of volunteering for environmental and social causes, and planted some 20,000 trees in numerous projects.

With our solutions for energy-efficient buildings and over 45 million wireless devices in use, we are also generating the necessary data to enable people to adjust their heating behaviour. Studies show that even monthly information about heating consumption already measurably changes residents' behaviour. In this way, we are helping to decarbonise the building sector, which is responsible for around 36% of the EU's greenhouse gas emissions.

If we all pull together, we can achieve a great deal. This also applies to the heating transition: each wireless device that provides greater transparency, each heating system that we optimise to make it smarter, helps make buildings more energy-efficient, and therefore fit for the future. We just need to trust in technology and have the courage to embrace digital transformation. Let's do it!

Sustainability with a system

We give buildings a future – through solutions that help cut CO₂ emissions from buildings. This is the focus of our sustainability strategy. We also start with ourselves and have set ourselves ambitious goals. We are active in five fields:

Environment & Markets

Sustainability starts with small steps.

Employees

Sustainability is teamwork.

Partners & Society

Sustainability at all levels.

Our highlights in 2024

At ista, we also had big plans for 2024. We want our work to create added value, whether for our customers and residents, or for society as a whole. That is why we are active in many areas and playing our part. For instance, an increasing number of our devices are fully radio-enabled. This offers greater convenience for customers and residents, while reducing the need for car journeys and consequently lowering CO₂ emissions. At the same time, we are steadily increasing the percentage of electric vehicles in our fleet to reduce the environmental impact of unavoidable car journeys. What's more, many ista employees participate in environmental and climate protection initiatives. They are involved in a wide variety of projects across Europe, again clocking up thousands of hours of volunteering in 2024.
