The European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED).

This directive requires owners and managers of buildings with block heating to provide residents with more insight into their personal energy consumption, for fairer and more economical billing.

Purpose of the EED.

With the European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), the member states have agreed to further reduce the energy consumption of buildings. The main goal is to encourage residents to use energy and water consciously by making their consumption more transparent and transparent.

What does the EED mean in practice?

The directive entails several requirements:

  • Individual measurement with remote reading
The EED prescribes that water meters, heat meters and heating cost allocators must be able to be read remotely from now on. New meters must therefore be suitable for remote reading, and existing meters will be gradually replaced. Thanks to this technology, residents regularly gain insight into their consumption.
  • Regular consumption information
Whereas previously residents only received their consumption data once a year, the EED stipulates that they must now receive monthly information about their personal consumption of heat and water.
