Greater transparency, less CO₂ emissions.
With our smart solutions, we offer building owners and residents the necessary transparency to save energy responsibly and therefore make a contribution to climate protection. But we are also critically reflecting on our own behaviour and striving to make further progress in reducing our environmental impact every year.
Clear goals for a more sustainable future.
ista globally is committed to reducing its environmental impact and has established a clear and forward‑looking roadmap to guide its sustainability efforts. Our sustainability roadmap focuses on several key areas: We recognised very early on that our vehicle fleet is one of the most important levers for lowering CO₂ emissions. The goal is clear and, at the same time, ambitious: we want to switch our entire fleet to 100% electrically powered vehicles by 2028. We are also systematically expanding our EV charging infrastructure. More and more of our sites now obtain their power from renewable sources.

Sustainability in various fields of action.
Sustainability has top priority at ista. We help people save energy and take wide-ranging action ourselves to conserve resources and protect the climate. Our sustainability strategy defines specific goals in each of the five fields of action: environment, markets, employees, partners and society. In order to achieve these goals, we measure our progress at regular intervals.
Environment & Markets
Our MinuteView and istaCare online platforms team up to help end users meet legal reporting requirements and provide data led energy saving insights, driving their transition to a sustainable & compliant future.
Employees
Change starts with ourselves. We create the structures so people can develop their innovative potential. Our goal: we invest in our employees with training courses and coaching so they can reach their full potential – in both the analogue and digital worlds.
Partners & Society
With our commitment and smart solutions such as our Building Energy Management Systems, we want to help preserve the world for future generations.
Contributions to national and international climate and environmental policy.
- Climate protection: We contribute in particular to greater energy efficiency and raise the consumer's awareness of greater climate protection in buildings. The revised European Energy Efficiency Directive and its implementation in the EU member states set the legal framework for these activities which were implemented into UK Law. With our radio technology and offerings such our energy auditing, we offer our customers tailored solutions so they have easy and convenient ways of informing their tenants about their monthly energy consumption and so create incentives to save energy and costs.
- Human rights and environmental standards in global supply chains: We welcome the initiatives at European levels that require companies not only to respect human rights but also ensure environmental standards along the supply chain. These include the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization's (ILO)Declaration of Principles and the UN Convention against Corruption. With our measures for sustainable supplier management, we have been committed to fulfilling this responsibility for many years.
Contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
ista has firmly anchored the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations in its sustainability strategy. ista UK focuses on four of the SDGs:
We create transparency
With our metering devices, we make individual energy consumption transparent in more than 13 million homes and commercial properties. So consumers can identify and achieve energy-saving potential of 15 – 25%.
Sustainable added value
With sales of € 933 million in 2020, an increase of 2.66% compared with the previous year, we are contributing to the creation of value – for our employees, suppliers and service partners. Labour, social and human rights standards apply equally to us and our partners.
Sustainable living
Our products and services help tenants to save energy and resources. Together with our partners, we are continually improving the recyclability of our devices.
Contribution to climate protection
We have a clear aspiration: we help people make their contribution to climate protection – with smart solutions for buildings, in our own company and in social initiatives and projects. We are systematically pursuing our strategy to become a climate-neutral company.
“The team and I are dedicated to supporting clients to use less, emit less, and spend less. We have found that the most successful way to achieve this is by working with clients to harness innovative data solutions. This approach allows data to transparently do the hard work, giving us the flexibility to adapt to an evolving sustainable landscape."
