Our wired MBus technology provides stable communication and quick access to meter data. It also allows for seamless integration into existing building systems, making it ideal for multi-unit properties and locations with limited wireless connectivity.
Wired MBus is a tried-and-tested solution for energy and water metering, making it ideal for buildings where meters are close together or wireless connectivity is limited.
Using a physical bus connection enables rapid, interference-free data transmission and reduces system maintenance to a minimum. ista’s Wired MBus solutions help you to collect, analyse and act on consumption data with ease and confidence, whether you're managing a residential complex or a commercial site.
Each meter is connected to an MBus master unit via a dedicated cable. The master unit collects consumption data from all the connected meters and transmits it securely to your back-end system or reading system. As the meters are physically connected, data transmission is unaffected by environmental factors such as thick walls, signal interference or underground installations. Devices can be powered directly through the MBus line, which simplifies setup and extends the lifespan of battery-powered meters.
Gain unparalleled insights and control over your energy usage.
Wired MBus systems offer incredible flexibility in terms of installation. You can use linear, star or tree topologies – or any combination – to match your building's layout. A single master can manage up to 250 metres of cabling over nearly 3 kilometres, and extended networks can scale up to 1,250 metres and 14 kilometres. Thanks to the system's modular design, it can easily grow alongside your property portfolio while remaining compliant with European MBus standards.
Stable communication: Resistant to interference and ideal for use in underground and concrete-heavy buildings.
Fast data access: Read up to 250 metres from one master in seconds.
Flexible topologies: Supports linear, star, tree or hybrid layouts.
Low power use: Devices are powered via the MBus line, so there is no need for separate supplies.
High scalability: Expandable to over 1,000 metres per network.
Standards-based: Fully compliant with the EN 13757 MBus standard.
Hybrid compatibility: Supports integration with wireless M-Bus systems via multi-channel reading tools.
Integrated security monitoring: Detects tampering attempts and faulty meter behaviour.
